      Scholl Canyon, Glendale, CA

      In October 1991, Palmer was selected by the City of Glendale, California, for the development of its landfill gas resource. Several years earlier, Palmer had recommended to the City that it utilize the gas being flared (approximately 9 million cubic feet per day) by cleaning it, compressing it and piping it to the City’s own 250 MW power plant 5 miles away.

      Scholl Canyon awardAfter several internal studies and a competitive bid process, the City selected Palmer for the implementation of the project, and the gas lease and sale agreements were signed soon after.

      Construction began in January 1994 and the project commenced sales to the power plant in July 1994. In 1998 the project won the ‘Gold Award’ from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA).
