Palmer financed the construction of a 197.34 kW DC solar photovoltaic system located on the roofs of three neighboring mill buildings in Lowell, MA. The host buildings are part of the Western Avenue Studios complex, a historic redevelopment project which is converting the old mill buildings into artist studios, workspaces and residences for the arts community.
At the time it was constructed, the project was one of the largest solar PV projects on a non-industrial /commercial rooftop in Massachusetts. The system commenced commercial operations on September 1, 2011 and qualifies for net metering as well as Solar Renewable Energy Certificates (“SRECs”) pursuant to the provisions of the Commonwealth’s Green Communities Act.
